MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Belhaven Men's Soccer team fell to the No. 3-seed Maryville College in the quarterfinals of the CCS Tournament on Wednesday. The Blazers finish the 2022 season with a record of 6-7-5.
The Scots opened the scoring in the 11th minute after Belhaven missed on a couple of early opportunities. Maryville added their second just past the halfway mark of the first half to take a 2-0 advantage into the break.
Unfortunately, the Scots kept the momentum going into the second 45 with a quick goal to go up 3-0. Belhaven continued to fight to keep their season alive, as
John Tolliver scored his second goal of the season to draw within two.
The Blazers went on the attack and had several goal-scoring chances around the 75-minute mark but were unable to capitalize. With time winding down, Belhaven continued to battle. However,
Igor Rudolph's shot in the 85th minute was saved by the Maryville keeper, ending any chance of a heroic comeback effort from the Blazers.
Five different Blazers recorded shots on goal in the contest.
Max Rudolph came up with three saves on the night.
