Blazers Effort Falls Short in Belton

Box Score

BELTON, Texas - The Belhaven Blazers (5 - 6 - 1) second half comeback effort falls short against Conference leaders, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders (9 - 3 - 0) by the score of 3-1.

Belhaven's performance this past Thursday called for a soul-searching intervention. After such a disappointing showing the previous match day, the Blazers needed to move on quickly.

From the first whistle, the match gushed with intensity. While the Blazers defended well, the deadlock was opened in the 23rd minute of the match as the Crusaders laced home the first goal. Still raring to gain momentum, the Blazers would concede again just 15 minutes later to increase the score line in favor of the opposition.

Although the match looked lost, the Blazers showed grit and heart from the second half whistle. With their backs against the walls, the Blazers forced their way back into the Game through a breakaway goal from striker Adrian Eaglin, which was assisted by Dalton Morgan.

Winning the second half battle, the Blazers oozed confidence. Just moments later, Adrian Eaglin had another go towards goal, but was unlucky as his strike hit the post. In the 76th minute, the Crusaders were able to tally another goal to the score line to seal the deal.

Although the game ended with an unflattering score line, The Blazers never gave up and have much to look forward to with their last 2 conference games being at home.

"The boys fought hard and showed great determination," Coach Gleddy states, "I am proud of the lads for that. After a grueling week, we will look forward to the week ahead with our heads held high."

Adrian Eaglin earned his first goal of the season through a Dalton Morgan assist. Goalkeeper Wade Martin was solid in goal as well, making 6 saves. The Blazers fall to (3 - 4) in conference play heading into their last week of regular season conference play.

The Blazers will return home and face the University of Ozarks Eagles on Thursday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m.
