JACKSON, Miss.– The Belhaven Blazers volleyball team completed their second full week of practice and capped the week off with a scrimmage against Tougaloo College.
Coach Dee on Week 2 of practice: "The second week has been great in the gym. The ladies are working hard trying to get better in every facet of the game. With so many new faces at nearly every offensive position, we are having to spend a lot of time know where to be on the court and not had a lot of time to focus on connecting. With that said, we had a really good week and it was beneficial for our freshmen to get in and get some time to learn our speed and offensive and defensive responsibilities. Energy is great, but can always get better. Excited for the weekend in front of us in Atlanta."
Coach Dee on the scrimmage against Tougaloo on Saturday: "I was very impressed with our level of play today during the scrimmage against Tougaloo. We did a great job of being aggressive on the service line to give us opportunities on the offensive side of the ball. I was asking someone to step out and stand out today. The problem is everyone stepped up. I guess it is a great problem to have. I was impressed with our passing and serving. I think we still have some work to do to connect on the offensive end and we always can get better blocking. Overall, there were only positives to take away from today. We are really young, but I think we are going to continue to grow and get better and exceed some expectations for this season. I'm excited about this Family and this team. They are hard working women ready to represent this University and qualify for the ASC tournament."
Belhaven will return to practice in Rugg Arena on Monday, before heading to Atlanta, Ga. on Wednesday.
The Green and Gold will open up the 2019 season playing in the Emory Classic on Friday, August 30 in Atlanta, Ga. at 2:00 p.m. Emory and Henry College will host the Classic.
