LONGVIEW, TEXAS - The Belhaven women's tennis team split two matches Saturday with American Southwest Conference opponents Texas-Tyler and LeTourneau, falling 8-1 to the Patriots in Tyler before earning a 6-3 victory over the YellowJackets in Longview.
Belhaven moves to 13-4 on the season after today's results, and now have just two regular season matches remaining on the 2017 schedule.
In the loss to UT Tyler, the lone set win for the Blazers was a default at the No. 1 singles position.
Jandayia Lubin fought hard at No. 2 singles, but eventually fell 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.
Versus LeTourneau,
Ivanna Echezuria and Lubin teamed up to take the victory at No. 1 doubles, 8-4. LeTourneau took the remaining two doubles matches, but the Blazers rebounded to win five of the six singles matchups.
Echezuira won at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0, improving to 13-0 on the season. Lubin earned a 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 2 while
Caroline Terry won 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 3 position.
Alexandria Furdge earned a hard-fought victory at No. 4 singles, defeating her opponent 6-4, 5-7, 10-5.
Madeline Wurster picked up her second singles win of the year, cruising to a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5.
Up next, the Green and Gold return home to host Loyola University New Orleans on Tuesday, April 11 at 3 p.m. for Senior Day.
