CLARKSVILLE, Ark. -- The Belhaven men's tennis team won a close, hard-fought match over the Ozarks, 5-4, on the road over the weekend. Belhaven was scheduled to play East Texas Baptist as well over the weekend, but the match was cancelled due to rain. The Green and Gold end the regular season with a 12-7 record.
The Blazers fell behind 2-1 after doubles play, where the Green and Gold dropped the first two doubles matches. Rene Ramos and Joan Soler were edged 8-5, while Devonte Thomas and Dylan Throgmorton fell 8-1.
Ivan Alberto Kerkoc and Sebastian Barrientos notched the only win in doubles play for the Blazers after an 8-1 victory.
Ramos won at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1 to end the regular season at 15-0. Soler won a tough match at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-4. Kerkoc was the only Blazer to win in both singles and doubles after rolling 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3.
Thomas fell at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-1 and Barrientos dropped a three-set match at No. 5 singles 6-0, 4-6, 4-6. Owen Taylor brought home the fifth win in singles play with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.
