JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven men's tennis squad put together consecutive 9-0 sweeps on Friday and Saturday at home over Centenary and Louisiana College. The Blazers improve 10-5 now on the season and have won five straight matches.
In singles action against Centenary, the Blazers tallied four wins by default. Judson Watson and Grant Matherne won both of their singles matches at No. 5 and No. 6 by scores of 6-0, 6-1.
Ivan Kerkoc and Sebastian Barrientos won at No. 1 doubles 8-0. The Blazers claimed the other two doubles' victories by default.
Against Louisiana College, the Blazers rolled through doubles playing losing just one game combined. Rene Ramos and Owen Taylor recorded an 8-0 at No. 1 doubles, while Kerkoc and Barrientos won 8-0 at the second slot. Judson Watson and Dylan Throgmorton won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
Ramos improved his overall singles record on the season to 11-0 after cruising 6-0, 6-0. Kerkoc also registered a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, as Devonte Thomas also won convincingly at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-1. Barrientos and Owen Taylor never lost a game in their 6-0, 6-0 match wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots. Yann Kaufman won his second match of the season with an 8-0 victory in the final match at No. 6 singles.
Belhaven will next travel to Texas-Tyler and Letourneau on Saturday. The first match is set to begin at 9 a.m.
