NEW ALBANY, Miss. – The Belhaven women's tennis team registered two victories on Saturday on the road over Huntingdon and Blue Mountain. The Blazers defeated Huntingdon 7-2, and then posted a 6-3 victory over Blue Mountain. The Green and Gold now improve to 3-1 on the season.

In the first match of the day against Huntingdon, the Blazers swept all three doubles matches. Natalia Lopez and Ivanna Echezuria improve to 4-0 at the No. 1 doubles slot. The duo won easily 8-1, while Caroline Terry and Alexandria Furdge won at No. 2 doubles by a score of 8-6. Mary Lichlyter and Hannah Daly tabbed an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.

Echezuria improved to 4-0 in singles play as well, after cruising at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Lopez also rolled 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

Lichlyter also came away with a decisive 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles. Daly and Terry fell at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Terry was defeated 5-7, 6-1, 9-11 in a third set tiebreaker. Alexandria Furdge won 8-4 in her singles match at No. 6.

Against Blue Mountain, the Blazers also swept all three doubles matches. Caroline Terry and Furdge won by default at No. 3, while Lopez/Echezuria and Lichlyter/Daly both won by scores of 8-4.

The Blazers already took two victories at No. 5 and 6 singles due to defaults, so the lineup shifted against BM. Lichlyter won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and was the only Blazer to do so. Daly fell 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2, and Furdge fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3. Madeline Wurster also faltered 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.

Belhaven will return to the courts next Saturday at home as they host both Tougaloo and Delta State. The first match is set for 10 am, while the second is to begin at 3 pm.
