JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven men's soccer team travels to Lookout Mountain, Ga. this weekend to compete in the David Taffe Invitational, hosted by Covenant College. The Blazers take on the host school on Friday at 7 p.m. ET before facing Maryville College on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET.
Belhaven (0-1) is coming off of a 2-1 loss to Centenary College in their 2016 season opener on Thursday, Sept. 1. The Blazers outshot the Gents 11-6 and had eight corner kicks while Centenary had just three, but the Green and Gold was unable to come away with a victory.Â

Nicolas Cornejo came off the bench versus Centenary to score Belhaven's first goal of the season, finding the back of the net in the 29th minute to even the score at 1-1. Junior transfer

Covenant (0-2) is also still looking for its first win of the 2016 season. The Scots are coming off of a 2-0 defeat to Wilmington (Ohio) on Saturday, Sept. 3. Prior to that, Covenant dropped its season opener to Berry College, 2-1. The Scots finished the 2015 season with a 5-11-2 record.Â
Maryville (1-1) opened the season with a 3-2 win over Oglethorpe University before suffering a 2-0 defeat to Emory. The Scots will play Millsaps College in Lookout Mountain on Friday before facing the Blazers on Saturday. Maryville posted a 14-3-2 mark last season and have finished with a winnning record in 16 of its last 17 seasons.Â
This will be the eighth meeting between Belhaven and Covenant. The Blazers hold a 4-2-1 advantage over the Scots in the series and won the most recent meeting, earning a 2-1 victory last season. For Belhaven and Maryville, this will be the first meeting since 1985 and just the second meeting all-time. The Blazers won that first meeting by the score of 5-1.Â
