JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven women's soccer team will welcome the Hardin-Simmons University Cowgirls and the McMurry University War Hawks to H.T Newell Field this Thursday and Saturday. The Blazers take on the Cowgirls Thursday at 5 p.m. and face off against the War Hawks on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Belhaven (1-4) will look to rebound after a tough weekend in Texas last week, where the Blazers fell 4-2 to Concordia Texas and 5-0 to Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Jessica Mahoney and
Erica Rempel scored a goal each versus Concordia Texas while
Erika Smith made 13 saves in goal against Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Belhaven will have its hands full against Hardin-Simmons (5-1), who has won an incredible 13 consecutive American Southwest Conference titles. The Cowgirls compiled a 9-1 conference mark in 2015 and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. This season the Cowgirls are allowing opponents just 6.7 shots per game and 0.33 goals per game.
This is the second all-time meeting between Hardin-Simmons and the Blazers. The Cowgirls got the best of the Blazers in the lone previous matchup, defeating Belhaven 10-0 on Sept. 26, 2015 in Abilene, Texas.
McMurry (0-6) is still searching for its first win of the 2016 season. The War Hawks have scored just one goal in six games while allowing opponents to score 5.67 goals per game.
This will be the second all-time meeting between the War Hawks and the Green and Gold. Belhaven picked up a 2-0 victory on Sept. 25, 2015 in the first matchup between the two teams.
