JACKSON, Miss. - Belhaven men's soccer will host the Hardin-Simmons University Cowboys and the McMurry University War Hawks this Thursday and Saturday at H.T. Newell Field. Thursday's matchup with the Cowboys kicks off at 7:30 p.m. while Saturday's tangle with McMurry begins at 4:30 p.m.
Belhaven (1-3-1) is coming off of a 1-0 victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor last weekend in Texas. Senior forward
Nicolas Cornejo scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute of play. Cornejo now has three goals on the season, the second-highest goal total in the American Southwest Conference.
Hardin-Simmons (3-2) has won three straight games after dropping both of its first two games of the year to No. 5 Trinity.
This is the third all-time meeting between the Blazers and the Cowboys. Despite outshooting the Cowboys 24-6, Belhaven fell 1-0 to Hardin-Simmons on Sept. 26, 2015. Prior to that, the Blazers defeated the Cowboys 3-2 on Sept. 22, 1986.
McMurry (2-3-1) is coming off of a 1-0 win over Texas Tyler on Sept. 17. The War Hawks rank fifth in the ASC in goals per game at 1.5. Seven different McMurry players have scored a goal this season.
This will be the second meeting all-time between Belhaven and McMurry. The Green and Gold took home a 4-1 victory on Sept. 25, 2015 in the first matchup with McMurry.
