JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven women's soccer team travels to Texas this weekend to begin conference play. The Blazers will take on Concordia Texas in Austin, Texas on Friday, Sept. 16 before heading to Belton, Texas on Saturday, Sept. 17 to face Mary Hardin-Baylor. Both matches are scheduled for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
Belhaven picked up its first win of the season on Sept. 8, defeating the LaGrange College Panthers 2-1. The Blazers erased a 1-0 halftime deficit with second-half goals from
Amber Thomas and
Jessica Mahoney.
Concorda (1-1-1) is coming off of a 1-0 loss to Texas Lutheran on Sunday, Sept. 11. The Tornados finished the 2015 season with a 4-11-1 record.
This is the second all-time meeting between the Blazers and the Tornados. The two teams played to a scoreless draw in Jackson last season on Sept. 19.
Mary Hardin-Baylor (2-1-1) played Pacific University to a scorless draw in its most recent match on Sept. 10. Prior to that, the Crusaders picked up a 2-1 win over Austin College on Sept. 6. Mary Hardin-Baylor recorded a 12-4-1 mark last season.
This is the third all-time meeting between the Blazers and the Crusaders. The series is currently split 1-1, with Belhaven defeating Mary Hardin-Baylor 3-1 on Sept. 11, 1999 and the Crusaders taking down the Green and Gold 3-0 in Jackson last season.
