JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven men's soccer team travels to Texas this weekend to begin American Southwest Conference play. The Blazers will take on Concordia Texas in Austin, Texas on Friday, Sept. 16 before heading to Belton, Texas on Saturday, Sept. 17 to face Mary Hardin-Baylor. Both matches are scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff.
Belhaven (0-2-1) played Covenant College to a scoreless draw before suffering a 4-2 loss to Maryville College last weekend at the David Taffe Invitational in Lookout Mountain, Ga. The Blazers fell behind 3-0 to Maryville in the first half and were unable to dig themselves out of a hole.
Concordia (4-1) has won its past four games after dropping its 2016 season opener. The Tornados most recent victory was a 3-0 win over Texas Lutheran on Sept. 10. Concordia finished the 2015 season with a 12-3-1 record.
This is the second all-time meeting between the Blazers and the Tornados. Concordia bested Belhaven in the lone previous meeting, earning a 3-2 overtme win in Jackson on Sept. 19 of last year.
Mary Hardin-Baylor (4-2) is coming off of a 1-0 loss to Austin College on Sept. 13. The Crusaders recorded a 8-5-3 mark last season.
Belhaven and Mary Hardin-Baylor have met five previous times. The Blazers have come away victorious in three of those matches. The two teams met last season for the first time since 2000, playing to a 1-1 draw in Jackson on Sept. 17.
