CLINTON, Miss. – The Belhaven Blazers edged out cross-town rival Mississippi College in a Men's Tennis showdown, winning 5-4 to improve to 8-2 on the campaign.
The Blazers earned a slim 2-1 advantage following doubles play with victories from the pairings of
Harry Amor and
Tomas Ojeda, as well as
Rafael Siqueira and
Pawel Tarasewicz.
Amor and Ojeda defeated Marcos Rocca and Petar Damjanovic 8-4 in the number one singles match. Siqueira and Tarasewicz knocked off J. Rodrigo Gonzalez and Phillip Qu 8-5 in the other doubles victory for Belhaven.
With the edge in doubles, the Blazers needed three win in singles to clinch the victory, and that is just what Belhaven did, with victories from Ojeda, Tarasewicz, and
Rene Ramos.
In number three singles, Ojeda defeated Maximilian Nilges 6-2, 7-5 for the first of three victories. Tarasewicz followed it up with a win over Gonzalez 6-2, 6-4.
Ramos had the clinching win for Belhaven, edging out Qu in a tight battle 7-6 (8-6), 7-5.
