JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven women's soccer team will play its final non-conference game of the 2016 season Wednesday evening, hosting Rhodes College inside Belhaven Bowl Stadium at 7 p.m.
The Blazers (4-9) enter Wednesday's match looking to end a two-game slide. Belhaven dropped its final two road games of the year last week, falling 4-1 at Texas-Tyler on Thursday before suffering a 5-0 loss at the Ozarks on Saturday. Prior to that, the Blazers defeated East Texas Baptist 1-0 on Oct. 8.
Junior forward
Jessica Mahoney leads the Blazers in goals scored (6), total shots (43) and shots on goal (23) this season. Freshman forward
Erica Rempel has added five goals and a team-high two assists. Freshman defender
Alex Trammell has played a team-high 1,115 minutes while starting in all 13 of Belhaven's games.
Rhodes (7-3-1) is coming off of a 1-0 overtime loss to No. 21 Centre College on Sunday. Previous to that defeat, the Lynx had gone 6-0-1 in their previous seven matches.
Rhodes is outscoring opponents 37-5 this season, and the Lynx rank 22nd in NCAA Division III in goals per game (3.36) and 26th in goals against average (.443).
The Blazers are nearing the end of the 2016 season, and after Wednesday's match with Rhodes, will wrap up the year with home games versus Louisiana College (Oct. 22), Texas-Dallas (Oct. 27) and Howard Payne (Oct. 29).
