JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team open a three-match homestand, beginning with the Mary Hardin-Baylor Cru on Thursday and the Tornados of Concordia Texas on Saturday.
The Blazers' 3-0 start ties their ninth best start in program history. Belhaven also started 3-0 in 1986. That season, they finished 19-3-1, with the 19 wins ties the most in a season in program history.
"We're pleased with the start; we're pleased with the results. They haven't come easy. All three teams were difficult to score against," head coach Carl Griffths said. "We've come a long way, and each opponent that we face is tougher than the last."
Even though the Blazers are starting play in the American Southwest Conference (ASC) this weekend, BU currently holds an 18-9 record mark against ASC opponents. The Blazers are 3-1 against Mary Hardin-Baylor (2-2), with their last meeting coming on September 1, 2000.
The Tornados of Concordia Texas (4-0) will be the first of six teams that the Blazers will face in conference play for the first time in program history.
The Blazers will conclude their three-match homestand against rival William Carey. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Belhaven Bowl.
