MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Belhaven Women's Tennis team recovered from an opening 9-0 defeat to split its matches at the Auburn-Montgomery Invitational this weekend with a 5-4 victory in match two.
The Blazers fell to Auburn-Montgomery in the opener, losing 9-0 to the No. 3 Warhawks.
The closest point in the match came in doubles action as
Ashley McLendon and Sara Caroline Kimball fell 8-4 to the team of Celine Lenertz and Kelly Southwood.
Anne Marie Kimball had the closest singles match in the conference matchup, scoring two points in a 6-0, 6-2 defeat to Alice Baudeigne.
In Belhaven's second match, the Blazers defeated the Redhawks of Martin Methodist in a 5-4 victory.
Ashley McLendon had the big win for the Blazers in singles action, defeating Martin Methodist's Michaela Maher 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action the top victory for the Blazers came in an 8-6 victory for
Mary Lichlyter and
Rachel Jefcoat over Victoria Ryjak and Laura Ariza
Lichlyter and Jefcoat each had tough three set losses in singles action. Lichlyter fell 7-5, 6-7, 1-0 (10-7) and Jefcoat lost 6-3, 1-6, 7-5.
The Blazers will return to the courts in a SSAC Roundup held in Mobile, Ala. on March 13.
