MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Belhaven Men's Tennis program split its matches at the Auburn-Montgomery Invitational this weekend.
Belhaven picked up a 7-2 victory over the University of Pikeville in the first of two matches on the docket for the Blazers.
Jefferson Nino highlighted the win for Belhaven, winning in the No. 1 position in singles action by a score of 6-3, 6-1 over Juan Reyes.
Omar Lopez also picked up a two set victory on the day, defeating Marcos Fondelius 6-3, 6-4.
Doubles started out tight between the two schools as two of the three matches went to tiebreakers.
Daniel Duarte and
Alexander Puyol defeated Juan Reyes and Devon Sgubin 9-8 (7-4).
Nino and
Daniel Prado picked up the other doubles victory with a win over Marcos Fondelius and Dmitry Babenkov 8-5.
In Belhaven's second match, No. 3 Auburn-Montgomery shut out the Blazers in a SSAC match.
Prado had the closest match of the day against AUM, falling to Luis Vivas 6-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-2).
The Blazers will return to the courts in a SSAC Roundup held in Mobile, Ala. on March 13.
