JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven Blazers Women's Tennis team defeated Riverside Drive rival Millsaps College on Tuesday in a dual match, defeating the Majors 6-3.
Belhaven would go on to seal up the victory in singles play, winning five of the six matches.
Rachel Jefcoat and
Mary Lichlyter both cruised to comfortable two-set wins. Luchlyter won her sets 6-1, 6-2, while Jefcoat won 6-0, 6-2.
Stephanie Smith also had a two set victory, winning 6-2, 7-5.
AnneMarie Kimball and
Brittany Keeling each needed three sets after dropping the first set. Kimball fell 7-6 (5) in set one, but came back to win with set victories of 6-3 and 10-8.
Keeling overcame a 3-6 defeat in set one to win 6-3 in set two before winning the final set 11-9.
In doubles action, Lichlyter and Jefcoat teamed up for the only Blazers win, winning a close outcome 8-6.
Belhaven's next scheduled event is the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament on April 17, but the Blazers still have makeup dates in the works for Tougaloo College and Louisiana College. An updated date and time will be released at further notice on both matches.
