MOBILE, Ala. – The Belhaven Women's Tennis team split day two of the SSAC Roundup on Saturday, defeating Bethel 9-0 before falling to No. 23 William Carey 8-1.
The Blazers made quick work of Bethel in the morning session. In doubles action, the pairing of
AnneMarie Kimball and
Stephanie Smith defeated Tori West and Victoria Dugan 8-2.
Mary Lichlyter and
Rachel Jefcoat topped Selina Williams and Shelby Kennedy 8-3, while
Ashley McLendon and
Ellen Scott swept Christina Shands and Kansas Glasglow 8-0.
In singles action, Kimball topped West 6-1, 6-1 and Smith beat Dugan 6-0, 6-2.
Lichlyter defeated Williams 6-1, 6-1, while Jefcoat made fairly quick work of Kennedy 6-1, 6-0.
Also in singles action, McLendon topped Shands 6-1, 6-2 and
Brittany Keeling picked up a win in her only match of the day, defeating Glasglow 6-0, 6-1.
Against Carey, the Blazers only picked up one point, doing so in doubles action. McLendon and
SaraCaroline Kimball defeated Gloria Kaufman and Hannah Bradford 8-3.
Jefcoat and Keeling each played a tight three sets in singles action. Jefcoat fell to Oceane Sanchez 6-4, (4-6), 6-3. Keeling lost to Bradford (0-6), 6-2, 6-4.
The Blazers will return to action next Saturday, playing LSU – Shreveport and Louisiana College on the road.
