Volleyball set for non-conference match with Xavier

JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Blazers Volleyball team will travel down Interstate 55 to New Orleans, Louisiana on Tuesday to take on the Gold Nuggets of Xavier University of Louisiana in a non-conference battle. The Blazers and Nuggets are set for a first serve at 6:30 p.m. inside of the Convocation Center.

Tuesday's match is the first meeting between Belhaven and Xavier since the 2012 season, when the Blazers dropped two matches to the Gold Nuggets in a home-and-home series.

Prior to 2012, Belhaven had reeled off five straight victories against Xavier, which has given the Blazers a slim 6-5 advantage in the series history dating back to the first meeting in 2003.

The Blazers are in their 20th season of competition and their first season as members of the NCAA and the American Southwest Conference. Belhaven holds a program record of 296-359 since the program started in 1996.

The Belhaven Blazers are set to play their second of four games against the state of Louisiana this season with Belhaven's travels to New Orleans. The Blazers are 1-0 this season with a win against Dillard University on September 11th.

In Belhaven Volleyball's program history, teams from the state of Louisiana have been unkind, as the Blazers have just a 37-69 record against the state in 106 games.

Tuesday's match will be just the fourth match for Belhaven against an NAIA opponent this season, as the Blazers transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division III this season. Belhaven's first three matches against NAIA schools all came in tournament/invitational competition at the beginning of the season.

In the first three games, Belhaven has picked up a 3-0 record, dropping just one set in those matches. Belhaven will have two more matches against NAIA opponents in the last week of the regular season.
