Volleyball Falls to Millsaps in Season Opener

JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Volleyball team opened the 2026 season with a 3-0 setback against crosstown rival Millsaps on Tuesday night inside Rugg Arena.

Megan LaCour led the Belhaven attack with 11 kills, two service aces and five digs. Tarryn Woodall followed with 10 kills, nine digs and an ace, while Maggie Joy Tomlin recorded a double-double with 25 assists and 10 digs.

Kayla Robinson led all players with 23 digs and added three assists. Angel Edwards finished with two of Belhaven's five service aces.

The opening set featured 16 ties and six lead changes. Belhaven erased a 13-11 deficit with three straight points, getting a kill from LaCour, an ace from Edwards and another LaCour kill to move in front, 14-13. After Millsaps regained the lead, the Blazers pulled even at 17-17. Belhaven later fought off two set points, trimming a 24-21 deficit to one following a Millsaps attack error and a LaCour kill. Madelynn Sasser answered with a kill on the next point to give the Majors the 25-23 win.

Belhaven carried the momentum into the second set and took a 5-4 lead on a Woodall kill. Millsaps responded with six unanswered points to move ahead, 10-5. The Blazers answered with a 3-0 run to cut the margin to 12-10, but the Majors used another five-point stretch later in the set to pull away.

The Blazers raced out to a 6-2 advantage in the third behind kills from Goldie Lowe and LaCour, a Woodall ace and a combined block from LaCour and Cami Davis. Millsaps answered with seven consecutive points before Belhaven battled back to tie the set at 9-9. The teams remained even through 16-16, but a four-point Millsaps run gave the Majors a 20-16 edge. Belhaven closed within three late before Millsaps finished the match.

Sasser led Millsaps with a match-high 13 kills. Amelia Bohl added eight kills while hitting .500.

Belhaven (0-1) returns to action on Friday in Sherman, Texas. The Blazers will face Concordia (TX) at 4:00 p.m. before taking on host Austin College at 8:00 p.m.
