Football set to renew series with Mary Hardin-Baylor

JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven Blazers will head back on the road this Saturday traveling to Belton, Texas to take on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at Crusader Stadium. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

The Blazers stand at 0-4 on the season after falling to Huntingdon College, 21-35, last Saturday at H.T. Newell Field in Jackson, Mississippi.

Mary Hardin-Baylor, will be playing in its fourth game of the season, coming off of a bye week which followed a 43-10 win against Wisconsin-La Crosse two weeks ago. The Crusaders started the 2015 season with a 42-3 win over Ohio Wesleyan, followed by a 65-12 victory over Millsaps College in week two.

Saturday's meeting will mark the first game between Belhaven and Mary Hardin-Baylor in 13 years. The two programs both started in 1998 and the teams played home-and-home series for the first four years, with each team winning two games against one another.

Mary Hardin-Baylor is under the direction of head coach Pete Fredenburg. In his 18th season as head coach, the only coach in the history of the Crusaders football program, he has compiled a 173-36 record. Fredenburg has won 10 consecutive ASC Titles and have made 13 total trips to the NCAA Division III National Championships. The Crusaders have made the year-end tournament the last 11 seasons.

Belhaven is 3-2 all-time in games in the state of Texas. The Blazers are 7-3 against teams from 'The Lone Star State'.

With the transition to NCAA Division III, Belhaven Athletics has joined the American Southwest Conference as a provisional member in 2015-16. Heading into the season, Belhaven has played just two of the ASC's seven football schools in the program's history. Mary Hardin-Baylor is the first of the two familiar opponents that Belhaven plays this season, with next week's game against Louisiana College being the second.
