SHREVEPORT, La. The Belhaven women's tennis team improved to 6-3 overall with a 9-0 victory over LSU-Shreveport on Saturday morning. The Blazers got back on track after losing to the College of Coastal Georgia last Saturday.
In doubles, the Blazers were dominant, only allowing one point in three matches. Things started off with the No. 1 Blazers duo of
Stephanie Smith and
Elizabeth Chrestman's 8-0 defeat over the Pilot's Katie Pourclau and Hannah Inngerson.
Mary Lichlyter and Rachel Jeffcoat teamed up for another 8-0 victory over Kelsey Ellander and Hannah Hough. The lone point was given up in Katie Campbell and
Brittany Keeling's 8-1 route over Morgan Clark and Morgan Hendricks.
The Blazers controlled the women's singles portion of the match in a similar fashion.
Stephanie Smith knocked off Katie Pourclau 6-1, 6-0 and
Mary Lichlyter defeated Hannah Ingerson 6-0, 6-0. Rachel Jeffcoat followed with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Jaynie Stewart.
Elizabeth Chrestman then knocked off Kelsey Ellander 6-0, 6-0;
Ellen Scott bested Savanna Sweat 6-1, 6-1; and
Brittany Keeling anchored the Blazers with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Hannah Hough.
The Blazers will host Rust College at the Belhaven Tennis Complex Wednesday with matches starting at 1:30 PM.
