Box Score JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven men's basketball team fell 82-69 to Tougaloo College in Saturday's City with Soul Classic, which was held at the home gym of Jackson State University. The Blazers suffered their fourth consecutive loss, while the Bulldogs picked up their first win of the young season.
Belhaven was led offensively by
Jordan Bedford and
De'la Mayers, who each contributed 16 points and 7 rebounds.
Jerrial Dawson added 11 points, including nine from behind the three point arc.
Andravious Smith highlighted the effort for Tougaloo, scoring 22 points and hauling in 16 rebounds to lead all players in both categories. Kelsey Howard and Jarmell Anderson added 18 and 12 points respectively, helping the Bulldogs sneak past their crosstown rivals.
As a team, Belhaven shot 40% from the field, 40% from three-point range, and 72% from the charity stripe, besting their hosts in all three departments. The Bulldogs outrebounded their hosts by a tally of 40-29 in the first of three meetings between the two teams this season.
The Blazers return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Tyler, Texas to take on the Steers of Texas College. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 pm.
