Green and Gold tripped up by Faulkner

Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Belhaven women's soccer team suffered a setback in Southern States Athletic Conference play Thursday evening, falling 3-0 to Faulkner University. The Blazers now turn their attention to Saturday, when they will play their last game before the SSAC Tournment.

"These young ladies fought so hard and played well throughout the game," Head Coach Josue Sabillon said. "3-0 is very deceiving in this sport, and tonight could have very easily been 3-2. Faulkner capitalized on a couple of big mistakes, but I couldn't be more proud of our team."

Heather Lashley got Faulkner on the scoreboard first, chipping one into the net in the game's 14th minute. Teammate Kayla Wilson broke away from her defender to score the second goal of the night with three minutes left in the first half.

Twelve minutes after halftime, Jasmine Pressley's corner kick set up Katie Eaton's lone goal in the contest to give Faulkner their final score. Aided by a strong back line, Belhaven goalkeeper Nicole Walsh extended her career record for saves by picking up six more.

The Lady Eagles outshot their guests 25-5, including a 9-0 mark on frame. Faulkner also took a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks on their way to improving to 8-8-0 on the season.

Belhaven will play their final game of the regular season on Saturday, when they travel to Gainesville, Georgia to take on Brenau University. The Blazers have already clinched the final spot in the SSAC Tournament, but a win could rearrange the seedings.

"Our girls are playing through everything and doing it with so much heart," Sabillon said. "They believe in themselves, and right now, they're playing like it."
