Blazers Pull Even in SSAC Play

Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Belhaven women's soccer team improved to 8-2 overall and 2-2 in Southern States Athletic Conference play with a 2-1 victory over Brewton-Parker (3-8, 0-4) on Saturday.

"This was an agonizing game all the way around because we struggled at times throughout the course of the match," Head Coach Josue Sabillon said. "However, our team managed to maintain composure until the end and we are glad to have this win."

Belhaven rebounded from Thursday's loss to Brenau by outshooting their hosts 35 to 12, while also taking the edge in corner kicks three to two.

Chelsea Smith connected with Fran Glenny for her seventh goal of the year nine minutes into the second half. The 1-0 lead held up for 18 minutes, when Holly Harrod found the back the net for the only goal of the afternoon for the Lady Barons.

With under five minutes to play in regulation, Blazer sophomore Laura Quintero snuck a shot past goalie Marlee Tyde for her third goal of the year. Ashley Ventura was credited with the assist on Quintero's game winning kick.

Defensively, Tyde finished her day with a remarkable 18 saves, while Blazer counterpart Isabelle Granlund tallied four.

The Blazers will return home on Wednesday, when they will host the Badgers of Spring Hill College. The match is set to begin at 5:00 pm at H.T. Newell Field.
