Box Score JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven volleyball team dropped to 5-12 overall and 0-5 in Southern States Athletic Conference action Friday night, falling in three sets to Southern Wesleyan University. The hosts fell by final scores of 18-25, 14-25, and 15-25.
"I don't want to take anything away from Southern Wesleyan because they were a very good team," Head Coach
Justin Dee said. "They just played better than we did, and it came back to haunt us."
Sophomore
Taylor Hall was the team leader in kills, finishing the night with 10. Freshman
Jackie Gunderson followed with eight kills of her own. Junior setter
Alyson Plyler added 21 assists, while senior
Katherine Owen contributed 15 digs defensively.
The Warriors' (16-7, 4-0) offensive charge was led by Courtney Williams, who accumulated 13 kills, while Cherilyn Ramsey and Hayley Hoover contributed 12 and 10 respectively. Megan Widener assisted on 34 of the team's 46 kills, while Kelsey Deerinwater led the visitors with 16 digs on the defensive side.
Belhaven was unable to overcome 17 attacking errors, and the Warriors remained undefeated in Southern States Athletic Conference play.
"We have to put ourselves in position to run our offense," Dee said. "We will regroup, make the necessary changes, and refocus for tomorrow's match."
The Blazers return to SSAC action on Saturday, when they will play host to Emmanuel College. The match is set for 1:00 pm at Rugg Arena.
