Blazers Fall to Brenau in Gainesville

Box Score GAINESVILLE, Ga. – The Belhaven women's soccer team suffered their second loss of the season on Thursday in a 5-0 Southern States Athletic Conference setback against 20th-ranked Brenau University. The Blazers are now 7-2 overall and 1-2 in SSAC contests after starting the year 6-0.

"We knew we had our hands full coming in, but I was really proud of the way our girls played," Head Coach Josue Sabillon said. "Good teams take advantage of mistakes, and Brenau were able to do that tonight. "

Though the Blazers took eight shots on the night, the lone shot on goal came off the foot of Haley Crosby. The hosts saw four different scorers, highlighted by a pair of goals from Esther Anyanwu. Brenau outshot their guests by a total of 29-8, while also winning the battle of corner kicks eight to three.

The Blazers will rest on Friday and attempt to bounce back on Saturday against Brewton Parker. The match is set to begin at 1:00 from Mount Vernon, Georgia.

"Because I believe we can rebound, this match is behind us," Sabillon said. "Our girls are slowly showing the ability to break through, but right now, we have to focus on Brewton Parker."
