Volleyball Still Searching for Conference Victory

Box Score MOBILE, Ala. – The Belhaven volleyball team fell to 0-3 in conference play and 4-10 overall Friday with a loss to Spring Hill College. The visiting Blazers dropped consecutive sets with scores of 11-25, 24-26, and 11-25.

"Our girls played well, had long rallies, and made great decisions," Head Coach Justin Dee said. "This was the best match we played all season, but Spring Hill just ran a quicker offense than we were prepared for."

Senior Brittany Ammons led the way offensively for the Blazers, tallying nine kills. Sophomore Taylor Hall added seven and Jackie Gunderson provided six of her own. Junior Alyson Plyler accumulated 28 assists in the loss.

"Brittany was unstoppable on the right side, Aly made amazing decisions, and Taylor did a great job on the outside," Dee said. "If we can carry over our intensity from tonight, we can turn our season around."

On the defensive side of the net, Katherine Owen and Jackie Gunderson led the way with five and four digs respectively.

Sami Hantak paced Spring Hill (16-3, 3-0 SSAC) with 12 kills followed by Sha Sha Buchanan with 11 kills. Taryn Nash had a game high 42 assists.

The Blazers return to action Saturday afternoon in another SSAC match against the University of Mobile at 1:00 pm.
