Box Score PINEVILLE, La. - The Belhaven women's soccer team took the field Saturday against the Wildcats of Louisiana College and remained unbeaten when they left the pitch. Coming off a close 1-0 win over cross-town rival Millsaps on Wednesday, the Blazers added another win to their unblemished record thanks to a stifling 3-0 decision at Louisiana College.
Belhaven (6-0) was able to finish strong in a game that started slowly on offense. The Blazers were able to regroup at the half and found the back of the net three times in the final 45 minutes to take home the win.
"We started out sluggish in the first half, but in the second half we pulled together and had great play," said Head Coach
Josue Sabillon. "It will be great for us to start hot and see how that carries over throughout the entire match."
The Blazers were sparked in the 2nd half with two unassisted goals from sophomore
Hana Jeong in the 62nd and 78th minutes respectively. Jeong now has three goals on the season after firing in her first career goal last week at Delta State University.
"The player of the match goes to Hana," said coach Sabillion. "She's a player that we can truly rely on for both goals and assists."
Senior Jordan Ongan had the last goal in the 87th minute to add some extra insurance to the victory. It was Organ's fourth goal of the season.
Freshman
Isabelle Granlund suffocated the Wildcats chances of scoring with five saves on the night. In the process, she notched her fourth shutout of the 2013 season.
"Granlund was very instrumental as always, and she is an excellent communicator in net," said Sabillion.
As a team, Belhaven outshot the Wildcats 22-9 and had a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Louisiana College (2-4) was led on offense by Taylor Bergeron with four shots followed by Pamela Usry with three. Miranda Williams played all 90 minutes in goal and allowed all three goals with 10 saves.
The Blazers return home on Friday to face Emmanuel College in their Southern States Athletic Conference opener. The match will be played in "The Bowl" at 5:00 PM.
