Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – The Belhaven women's soccer team extended its winning streak to three to open the season after their second 3-0 shutout in as many days. After a victory against Wiley College on Friday, the Blazers put away East Texas Baptist University on Saturday.
"We had a really slow start and never really picked up speed as the game went on," said Belhaven Assistant Coach
Jessica Monarch. "We had to change the way we played and we struggled to get our foot under the ball to send it over the backline. Fortunately we were able to get quality, quick goals to put the game away. We saw some good things and sparks of creativity we can work with this week as we prepare to play more consistently for 90 minutes."
In the 38th minute,
Saje Pernie attempted a header off a corner kick that didn't quite sneak past goalie Sarah Collazo. Pernie did receive an assist, however, when
Ashley Harber was able to find the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season.
Nine minutes later, Harber found an opening in the net on a header of her own off a free kick.
Chelsea DeLeon picked up her second assist of the year.
The final goal for the Blazers came with just under 10 minutes remaining when
Jordan Organ took advantage of a misplay in the goal for her third of the season.
Freshman goalkeeper
Isabelle Granlund played all 90 minutes in the net for Belhaven, recording five saves.
Shots were even at 10 apiece for Belhaven and East Texas Baptist with the Tigers holding a slight edge in corner kicks 3-2
The Blazers will return to action next Saturday when they travel to Cleveland, Mississippi to take on Delta State University at 3:00 PM.
