Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Belhaven men's soccer team improved to 8-2-0 in Southern States Athletic Conference action and 12-4-1 overall with a 4-0 victory over Faulkner on Friday. The Eagles (3-12-1, 2-8-0 SSAC) were unable to defend their home turf, being shut out for the sixth time this season.
The Blazers outshout their hosts by a total of 34-2, while winning the battle of corner kicks 7-0. While Faulkner's Pritchard Ndaira and Diego de Silva split time in the net and combined for nine saves, they were unable to overcome the onslaught of shots on goal.
"We have been struggling to find our attacking form since the bye week, but tonight, we started to look sharp again," Head Coach Brian McMahon said. "To be sitting at 8-2 in our conference is something our guys are very proud of."
After being shut out in both of their previous two matches, four different Blazers were able to find the back of the net. With an assist from Jose Sergio Presti,
Rodrigo Suarez got the scoring started in the 19th minute with his second goal of the season.
Though one would prove to be enough for Belhaven goalie
Carl Blundell, his teammates had other ideas, striking again with four minutes remaining in the first half.
Lucas Talaveira Befi snuck a ball into the net for the fifth time during his freshman campaign, carrying the visiting Blazers to a 2-0 halftime lead.
After the break, Belhaven picked up where they left off, and the scoring began again just six minutes into the second half. Aided by a
Cillian Thompson assist,
Eduardo Cruz took over the team lead with his seventh goal of the year.
Victor Lawrence chipped in his fourth of the year to round out the scoring, with Presti picking up his second assist of the night.
Belhaven will conclude the regular season schedule on Saturday afternoon at 11th-ranked Auburn University of Montgomery. The match is slated to begin at 3:30 pm from Montgomery.
