Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Belhaven women's soccer team fell to 3-7 in Southern States Athletic Conference action and 9-7 overall on Friday afternoon after suffering a 5-1 loss in a key SSAC contest on the road. The defeat came at the hands of rival Faulkner University (8-9, 5-5 SSAC), who has now slid ahead of the Blazers in the SSAC standings.
"Our girls showed grit and progressively got better throughout the game, but we could have done better," Head Coach
Josue Sabillon said. "Mental lapses made today frustrating and disappointing."
Belhaven's lone bright spot came from the foot of
Hana Jeong, finding the back of the net for the fourth time this season. The goal came after
Fran Glenny's shot hit the crossbar, and Jeong rebounded with the lone goal for the Blazers.
The Blazers still need one SSAC victory to qualify for the postseason and will have to go through Auburn University-Montgomery to do so. The Blazers and Warhawks are set to square off on Saturday at 1:00 pm in Montgomery.
"We made the same mistakes we have all year, and our backs are against the wall now," Sabillon said. "It's difficult to absorb a loss like this, but we are looking forward to hitting the reset button and coming together for one more game."
