Blazer Bits
Game 5: Belhaven (1-3) vs. UVA-Wise (1-4), Saturday September 27th 5:00 PM, in Wise, Virginia. Last Meeting: UVA-Wise won 69-28 on October 13th, 2007 at Carl Smith Stadium in Wise, VA.

Coaches: Joe Thrasher (Belhaven-4th Season), Dewey Lusk (UVA-Wise- 2nd Season)

Series vs. UVA-Wise (Wise leads 2-1): This will be the 4th meeting between the Blazers and Cavaliers.

Records Fall: Belhaven shattered three school records, including most points scored in a game, most touchdowns in a game (10), and most extra points in a game (10) in last week's win over the Campbellsville. Belhaven broke the contest open in the second and third quarters with eight consecutive TD's en route to a key Mid-South Conference West Division win.

Belhaven's 70 points broke the previous record of 58 scored against Cumberland University (TN) on November 12, 2005. Also in that same game, the Blazers piled up eight touchdowns which were the most in school history until Saturday. The previous extra point record was seven, occurring three times in school history. The most recent was on September 18th, 2010 against Lindsey Wilson College. Saturday's combined point total of 98 was also the most points ever in the Campbellsville vs. Belhaven series. The prior record was 95, set in a 49-46 Blazer victory in 2006.

Road Woes: The Blazers will face another road test this weekend at UVA-Wise as they try and keep the momentum going from last week's record setting win against Campbellsville (KY). The road hasn't been kind to Belhaven over the past couple of seasons and the team is hoping to change that this week. The Blazers have not won on the road since 2010, but a victory over UVA-Wise would be big momentum and confidence booster.

Player of the Week x 2: For the second consecutive week, kicker James Bryan was selected as the Mid-South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week. Bryan, a senior from Saucier, Miss, broke a Belhaven school record with 10 extra points and averaged 51 yards per punt in the Blazers 70-28 win over Campbellsville. Bryan also drilled four kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks. Bryan continues to lead the nation in punting average with 47.7 yards per punt, is 13th in total scoring (27) points scored per game (6.8) and field goals per game (1).

Quick Stats: Thanks to the leg of Bryan, Belhaven is leading the nation in team punting average at 46.3 yards per game. Bryan has attempted every punt but one this season. Belhaven's offense is beginning to climb the national leader board after the 70 point explosion Saturday. The Blazers are 14th in first downs per game (22.5), 17th in total rushing yards (815), 19th in rushing yards per game (203.8), and 24th in points per game (30.8).

Tale of the Tape: Belhaven holds the offensive edge on paper in total yards, rushing yards and passing yards. The Blazers are averaging 395.8 yards per game compared to the Cavaliers, who enter the weekend at 245.2 yards per contest. UVA-Wise picks up 95 yards per game on the grown and 150.2 yards per game through the air. Belhaven is averaging 203.8 yards rushing and 192 yards passing per contest.
