CLEVELAND, Ga.-The Belhaven volleyball team opened the Southern States Athletic Conference schedule in fine fashion on Friday night, topping Truett-McConnell College 3-0. The Blazers took all three sets by the final scores of 25-10, 25-9, and 25-10.
Belhaven (8-2, 1-0 SSAC) dominated the match from the opening serve and kept Truett-McConnell (0-4, 0-1 SSAC) at bay en route to the win. The Blazers have won their first three matches this week and have yet to lose a set in the four match road swing that will conclude at Brenau University on Saturday. Belhaven topped Mississippi College and Centenary College in straight sets to open the week on Tuesday.
Freshman
Morgan Hofacker led the offensive barrage for Belhaven on Friday night delivering 10 kills on 21 total attempts. She also added seven digs on the defensive side of the net. Senior
Samantha O'Malley added nine kills and was very efficient, boasting a .538 hitting percentage. Senior
Natalie Davis also turned in nine kills while senior
Taylor Williams picked up five kills on the night. The Blazers have enjoyed a balanced attack on offense with Hofacker, O'Malley, Davis, and Williams able to put the ball down for points. Williams leads the team with 94 kills on the season.
Senior
Erin Bradley assisted on 28 kills Friday night and now has 320 through the first 10 matches of the year. Defensively,
Gabriella Zorzoli picked up 21 digs to thwart the Bears offense.
“The team played well tonight in our conference opener and it's nice to get that first win in the SSAC,” said Head Coach Jordan Lay. “We now have to turn our attention to Brenau and it will be a big test for us, but I have no doubts in our abilities. We have to come out tomorrow (Saturday) and play our game just like we did against Truett-McConnell.”
Saturday's SSAC match at Brenau is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
