Blazers Down Mississippi College and Centenary

Box Score vs. Mississippi College    Box Score vs. Centenary
SHREVEPORT, La. – Three days removed from a dominating 3-1 weekend at the Belhaven Classic, the Blazer Volleyball team traveled to Centenary College (Louisiana) for a tri-match that also included Mississippi College. The Blazers continued their trend of strong performances taking both matchups 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

In the first matchup of the day, the Blazers took on the Choctaws of Mississippi College after the two teams didn't match up during the Belhaven Classic. The Choctaws finished 2-2 in the weekend tournament, losing to Xavier and SUNO.

Belhaven came out firing from the get-go, never allowing Mississippi College to hang around for too long. Taylor Williams led the team with a season-high 17 kills, most of the assists coming from the hands of Erin Bradley. Bradley had another stat-stuffing match with 39 assists.

Belhaven blitzed the Choctaws in the first two sets 25-17 and 25-12 before Mississippi College settled down in the third set to challenge the Blazers. The team held strong however and pulled out a gutty final set 25-20 to win the match 3-0.

In the second match of the day the Blazers battled with host Centenary to the tune of another 3-0 win.

Belhaven kept the pressure on Centenary all match by finishing points early in rallies. The relentless attacks of Morgan Hofacker (12 kills) and Natalie Davis (10 kills) had them on their heels for much of the match and they were never able to recover.

The Blazers rolled to a straight set victory over Centenary 25-19, 25-9, 25-11. Belhaven pounded serve after serve, finding holes in the Centenary defense which was a major contributor to the 3-0 win.

Williams led the Blazers in kills for the day with 26. She was followed by Hofacker with 20 total kills and Davis with 15 kills on the day. Bradley added another 74 assists to bring her season total 292 on the season.

Junior Gabriella Zorzoli paced the Blazers with 34 digs between the two matches and Williams added a double-double with 30 digs of her own.

The two wins on Tuesday moves Belhaven to 7-2 on the season as they begin their conference slate.

Belhaven is back on the road again this weekend with a conference double header as they take on Truett-McConnell Friday night and Brenau on Saturday afternoon. Friday's contest is scheduled for 7:00 PM EDT.
