Belhaven Bounced by Mobile 3-0

Box Score
JACKSON, Miss. –The Belhaven's Women's soccer team fell 3-0 to the Rams of the University of Mobile on Saturday evening in a Southern States Athletic Conference contest at H.T. Newell Field. The fourth-ranked Rams looked the part, scoring two early goals to keep the Blazers at a distance.

Mobile didn't take long to get on the board. In the 8th minute, forward Saskia Adriance got the ball on a breakaway and put the ball past Nicole Walsh for the first goal of the game.

Only five minutes later, the smothering Rams' attack struck again on an unassisted goal by Christy Lachappelle. Lachappelle gathered a cleared ball around the midfield line and raced past the Belhaven defense before tucking the ball into the bottom left corner of the net for a 2-0 lead.

Following the two early goals, the Belhaven defense hunkered down to keep the Rams out of the net for the remainder of the period. Unfortunately, the offense wasn't able to generate any pressure of its own.

Walsh and Chelsea DeLeon made key stops at the beginning of the second half as the Blazers' defense continued to hold Belhaven in the game.

Despite their best efforts, the Rams were able to add a third goal to their total off the foot of Katie Compton. The final goal put any thoughts of a Belhaven comeback out of mind.

However, there were lessons to take away from the game for Belhaven. The Blazers defense performed well under pressure and kept the team in the game throughout the course of the match.

The lack of consistent offensive effort plagued the team, as evidenced by being outshot 18 to 6, but they were able to get good looks on net when they did break through the Rams' defense.

Things don't get any easier for Belhaven when they travel to Montgomery, Alabama to play the 19th ranked Warhawks of AUM on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 PM.
