Men’s and Women’s Soccer at SWU Featured as the SSAC Games of the Week

CENTRAL, S.C. – As the Belhaven Soccer teams begin their long trek to South Carolina, the Southern States Athletic Conference has announced that the matchups with Southern Wesleyan on Friday night are the Conference Games of the Week.

On the men's side, the game marks the beginning of a tough stretch of games for the No. 5 ranked Blazers, with three of their final five regular season games matching them against nationally ranked teams. Southern Wesleyan, Auburn-Montgomery, Mobile are all in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll, while local rival William Carey is receiving votes.

Southern Wesleyan is the No. 15 team in the country and is off to one of their best seasons in school history. The Warriors are 9-2 on the season, with both of their losses coming in SSAC play. They are also 3-1 on their home turf and their lone home loss was to an Auburn-Montgomery team who was ranked third in the country at the time.

However, they get a Belhaven team that has a chip on their shoulder after suffering their first loss of the season last weekend—a surprising defeat at the hands of an unranked Spring Hill squad. The Blazers expect a few of their injured starters to make their return against the Warriors in what should be a closely fought game.

On the women's side, each team is coming in looking to build a winning streak in the conference. Both teams have similar overall records—Belhaven is 5-8 and Southern Wesleyan 5-5-1—but the Blazers have had more success in conference play with three wins, as opposed to the Warriors one. The contest could be an important one in determining who's in and who's out of the conference playoff, come the end of October.

Due to the nature of the games, the Conference Games of the Week will be shown on the conference's live streaming application, click here. The women will kickoff at 4 p.m. Central Time, while the men finish with a night cap at 6 p.m.
