Blazers Toppled at Shorter University

Rome, GA- The Belhaven women's soccer team came up short on Friday afternoon against Southern State Athletic Conference opponent Shorter University at Shorter. The Blazers dropped the contest 3-2 and saw their season record fall to 4-5-1 and 2-2 in conference play.

Belhaven (4-5-1, 2-2 SSAC) struck first in the contest scoring on a goal off the foot of Rebecca Ontero in the 3rd minute while Christin Kaim picked up the assist. Kelli Davis then assisted Brandi Greenwald in the Hawks first goal in 9th minute tying the score at one a piece. Shorter found the back of the net with a shot from Aline Bez Tamiosso again in the 13th minute to give the Hawks a 2-1 advantage. Mary Beth Weber scored a goal to tie the game at 2-2 in the 26 minute with Morgan Ogale picking up the assist. Brandi Greenwald scored what would be the final goal of the contest in the 43rd minute. Greenwald's goal was the go ahead score and proved to be the game winner in the Hawks victory. Both offenses were held at bay in the second half

Rebecca Ontero posted three shot attempts and scored her 8th goal of the year while Christin Kaim unloaded two shot attempts and had an assist for the Blazers. The goal by Weber was her second of the year. The Hawks were led by Brandi Greenwald who scored two goals on four shot attempts. Aline Bez Tamiosso had the other goal for the Hawks.
Nicole Walsh suffered the loss in net which was her fifth of the season. Walsh turned in three saves and gave up three goals. Taylor Hays picked up the win for the Hawks allowing two goals while earning six saves.

The Blazers will be back in action on Saturday night at Lee University. Kickoff is slated for 5:00 PM.
