Blazers Knock off Brewton-Parker College

Jackson, MS- The Belhaven's women's soccer team picked up their second straight Southern States Athletic Conference win on Saturday afternoon defeating Brewton-Parker 5-0 after claiming a victory on Friday against Emmanuel College 4-3. The win bumps the Blazers season record to 4-4-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Belhaven (4-4-1, 2-1 SSAC) controlled the entire game keeping the Brewton-Parker offense at bay. Rebecca Ontero assisted Krista Brizeno with the first goal the contest in the 16th minute. After Ontero gained an assist, she picked up a goal in the 24th minute off a Nicole Williams pass. Christin Kaim was able to round out the scoring in the first half with a goal in the 42nd minute. She was assisted by Jantzen Oliver and it extended the Blazers advantage to 3-0 at the half.

Brewton-Parker College (1-7, 0-2 SSAC) remained stayed within three goals until the 80th minute when Saje Pernie picked up her first goal of the season. Mary Beth Weber was credited with the assist. Brizeno notched her second goal of the game in the 85th minute as Katie Miller setup the shot and was credited with the assist. The Blazers secured the 5-0 victory and earned their second shutout win of the season.

The Blazers outshot the Barons 26-3 with 16 of those shots came on goal including the five that found the back of the net. Brizeno led the Blazers on offense with three shot attempts including her two goals. Christin Kaim, Rebecca Ontero, and Saje Pernie all had a goal apiece. All five of Belhaven's goals were assisted by five different Blazers, Ontero, Williams, Oliver, Weber and Miller. For the Barons, Melissa Gonzalez had the only on goal shot attempt.

Nicole Walsh played all 90 minutes for the Blazers in goal and in the process picked up her fourth win. She did not allow any goals and made one save. Hannah Brunsed started in the net for the Barons giving up five goals while earning 11 saves as she suffered the loss.

The Blazers will look for their third conference win on September 30, 2011 as they travel to Shorter University. The game is slated for 1:00PM.
