Blazers Stay Unbeaten with Shutout of Emmanuel

Jackson, MS-For the sixth time in seven outings this season, the Belhaven men's soccer team held an opponent scoreless and this time it was Emmanuel College in a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup Friday afternoon at H.T. Newell Field. The Blazers blanked the Lions 2-0 and have now allowed only two goals in seven contests this season.

Belhaven (7-0, 2-0 SSAC) put their first goal on the board in the 33rd minute as Will Monsour took a long pass from goalkeeper Greg Hartley and found the back of the net with the shot to make it a 1-0 game. Hartley was given the assist on the play as he hit Monsour in stride with the pass. The Blazers then added a goal in the 47th minute when Edward Ameyaw deflected a pass from Belhaven's Achille Campion into his own goal extending the Blazer lead to 2-0. Campion was in the process of crossing the ball over to Monsour when Ameyaw stepped in front of the pass attempt.

Belhaven's defense was strong again limiting Emmanuel to just six shots in the game with only one being on goal. The Blazers outshot the Lion's 16-6 and had eight total shots on goal. The goal by Monsour was his sixth of the season which is second most on the team so far this year. Monsour had a match high five shot attempts with two being on goal. Campion and Alexander Wallin each had shots two apiece. Greg Hartley made one save in the contest and picked up his sixth shutout of the year in net running his overall record to 7-0.

Emmanuel (5-3, 0-2 SSAC) was led by Tom Butler who unloaded four total shots and had the only shot on goal for the Lions Friday afternoon. Anel Lilic made six saves and surrendered two goals suffering the loss in net.
