Blazers Fall in SSAC Opener at Brenau University

Gainesville, GA- The Belhaven women's soccer team traveled to Brenau University for a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup Tuesday afternoon. The Blazers dropped the contest 3-0 and fall to 2-4-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Brenau notched their third win of conference play pushing their conference record to 3-1 and while improving their overall record to 3-3-2.

Belhaven managed to hang tough with the Tigers in the first half as neither team was able to connect with the back of the net sending the teams into the locker room at halftime deadlocked in a scoreless tie.

The Tigers scored all three of their goals in the second half of the contest with the first coming off the foot of Jenny Knibbs in the 69th minute. Elizabeth Campbell setup the shot and gained the assist. Kristy Smith then assisted Hanna Martin with the Tigers second goal in the 78th minute giving Brenau a 2-0 advantage. Elizabeth Campbell wrapped up the contest with a goal in the 83rd minute as Jenny Knibbs received the assist sending the Tigers to a 3-0 victory.

Belhaven managed to outshoot the Tigers 17-15 with eight of those shots being on-goal yet the Blazers couldn't connect with the back of the net on any of those shot attempts. Christin Kaim led the team in shot attempts with five, three of which were on-goal. Krista Brizeno managed to get off four shots two of which were on-goal. Hanna Martin led the Tigers on the offensive side of the ball with seven shot attempts. Five of her shots were on-goal and one reaches the back of the net. Jenny Knibbs and Elizabeth Campbell rounded out the Tigers scoring with a goal apiece.

Belhaven goalie Nicole Walsh suffered her fourth loss of the season allowing three goals while earning five saves. Tori Brown turned in eight saves and did not allow a goal en route to the win.

The Blazers will be back in action on Friday at H.T. Newell Field against Southern States Athletic Conference opponent Emmanuel College. Game-time is slated for 12:00 PM.
