Blazers Comeback to Defeat Martin Methodist College

Jackson, MS- The Belhaven men's soccer team pulled out a comeback victory over Martin Methodist College 3-2 Saturday afternoon at H.T. Newell Field. The Blazers found themselves down early facing a 2-0 deficit until midway in the second half. Belhaven was able to put together a string of goals to overcome the deficit and gain another win.

Belhaven (6-0) fell behind early when Tom Pedrotti of Martin Methodist connected with the back of the net 45 seconds of the match. Kenneth Monge then assisted Benji Ciosanski with the Redhawks second goal of the contest in the 12th minute giving MMC a 2-0 advantage. Ciosanki's goal was the last of the half as the Redhawks took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

Achille Campion got his 12th goal of the season putting the Blazers on the board in the 59th minute cutting the lead to one. The Blazers tied the score 2-2 Alex Rodriguez's second penalty kick score of the season in the 76th minute. In the 85th, minute Campion set up Alexander Wallin for the go ahead goal as the Blazers took a 3-2 lead. Belhaven held off the Redhawks the rest of the way to clinch the come from behind win.

Belhaven outshot the Redhawks 17-9 with six of those shots being on-goal. Wallin got his first goal of the season, which proved to be the game winner. Campion attempted four total shots, had a goal and an assists. Alex Rodriguez had two attempts and a score in Saturday's contest.

Benji Ciosanski led the Redhawks firing two shots with one connecting into the back of the net. Tom Pedrotti attempted two shots with one goal scored.

Greg Hartley started the net for the Blazers giving up two goals while earning three saves giving him six wins on the season. Hartley had not allowed any goals through the first five games of the season. Stephen Lunney started in the net for the Redhawks and took the loss allowing all three goals three goals. Lunney turned away three other Belhaven shots in the conest.

The Blazers will be back in action on September 23rd at H.T. Newell Field as they take on Emmanuel College in a Southern States Athletic Conference contest. The game is slated to kick off at 2:00 PM.
