Blazers Rally Falls Short at Millsaps

Jackson, MS-The Belhaven women's soccer team rallied from a 2-0 deficit Tuesday night at Millsaps to pull even at 2-2 late in the second half, but the Majors went on to prevail 3-2 thanks to a goal in overtime. The Blazers fall to 1-3-1 with the loss while Millsaps improved to 2-3 with the victory.

Belhaven found themselves playing from behind 45 seconds into the contest when Taylor Winslow scored her third goal of the season to put the Majors in front 1-0. Millsaps added to their advantage in the 15th minute as Susan Harmon found the back of the net on an unassisted goal making the score 2-0.

The Blazers jumped on the board late in the 53rd minute as Christin Kaim blasted her second goal of the season past the goalie into the back of the net. Kaim's initial shot was deflected by goalkeeper Molly Beth Jourdan, but Kaim stayed with it and off the rebound connected on the goal. In the 87th minute, Krista Brizeno tied the game on a penalty kick goal giving the Blazers new life. However, in overtime Murchison Whitney picked up her third goal of the year on a rebound to end the match and give Millsaps the 3-2 win.

Brizeno led Belhaven on offense Tuesday night unloading five shots including a goal scored. Kaim had two total shots and a goal while Kimber Dear attempted four total shots with two being on goal. Taylor Winslow finished the night with three total shots plus a goal followed by Murchison with two shots and a goal for Millsaps. As a team, Belhaven outshot the Majors 20-13.

Belhaven goalie Nicole Walsh suffered the loss allowing all three goals while stopping five shots on the night. Jourdan made seven saves in net and allowed just two goals en route to the win.
