Blazers Play to a 2-2 Draw with East Texas Baptist University

Jackson, MS- The Belhaven women's soccer battled East Texas Baptist University to a 2-2 double overtime draw on Saturday afternoon in the Belhaven Bowl. The tie runs the Blazers record to 1-2-1 on the season.

Rebecca Davis got things started for the Tigers in the first half scoring a goal in the 26th minute with Kelsey Briscoe gaining an assist. A little over three minutes later, Kimber Dear and Rebecca Ontero setup Katie Miller with the Blazers first goal in the 29th minute tying the game up 1-1. The Blazers then struck again in the 36th minute with a goal by Christin Kaim while Amanda Smith gained the assists giving the Blazers a 2-1 advantage. Kaim's goal was the last of the half as the Blazers took a 2-1 edge into halftime.

The next goal came midway through the second half off the foot of Rebecca Davis of ETBU in the 55th minute. She was assisted on the score by Danica Saxon evening the match at 2-2. At the end of regulation, neither team was able to find the back of the net sending the game into the first 10 minute overtime frame. The contest then went into a second overtime of 10 minutes and both teams were once again unable to score ending the game in a 2-2 draw.

Krista Brizeno led the Blazers with four shot attempts and four shots on goal. Christin Kaim attempted three shots with two on-goals. One found the back of the net first her first goal of the season. Katie Miller's only shot attempt of the afternoon landed in the net for a goal which was her first in 2011. Danica Saxon led the Tigers with six shot attempts, four of which were on-goal while gaining an assist. Rebecca Davis had five shot attempts; four were on-goal while two connected with the back on the net. The Tigers outshot Belhaven 16-12 with 11 shots on-goal while the Blazers had eight shots on-goal.

Nicole Walsh started for the Blazers in the net playing all 110 minutes earning nine saves with two goals allowed. Walsh's season record is now 1-2-1. Erin Mason started in the net for ETBU picking up two saves and tallying two goals. Cristine Aquino played the other 65 minutes earning four saves.

The Blazers will be back in action on Tuesday September 13, as they travel to cross town rival Millsaps College. Game time is slated for 7:30 PM.
