Jackson, MS-The Belhaven men's soccer team put on an offensive show for the third straight match in an 8-0 victory over East Texas Baptist University on Saturday afternoon in the Belhaven Bowl. The Blazers, ranked 6th in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, have already posted 27 goals on the season and have scored at least eight goals in each of their first three matches.
Belhaven (3-0) got on the board with their first goal in the 23rd minute as
Achille Campion broke the scoreless tie off an assist from
Johnny Hayes. It would be the first of four goals for Campion on the afternoon. Just under 12 minutes later,
Colby Case landed his first goal of the season into the back of the net extending the Blazer advantage to 2-0 and then with just under three minutes to go until halftime Campion pushed the advantage to 3-0.
Giovanni Correa setup the shot for Campion and was credited with the assist.
The Blazers took complete control of the match early in the second half as Campion would hit pay dirt two more times in the first four minutes of the final period.
Aaron McLoughlin had the assists on both of the goals making the score 5-0 Belhaven.
Mabior Yai and
Guilherme Brandao tallied a goal each and
Felipe Ferreira rounded out the scoring with his second goal of the year in the 62nd minute. McLoughin picked up his third assist of the afternoon on the shot by Ferreira.
As a team, Belhaven outshot East Texas Baptist 31-7 and Belhaven goalkeeper
Greg Hartley faced only one shot on goal. Campion had eight total shots for the Blazers followed by McLoughlin and
Alexander Marquis with four apiece. Campion now has a team high nine goals on the season. Hartley got the win in net for Belhaven posting one save.
East Texas Baptist was led by Pete Fitzsimmons who had three total shots with one on goal. Justin Bailey and Juan Ramirez had two looks at the goal apiece. Austin Walker suffered the loss in goal for the Tigers allowing all eight goals with seven saves.
Belhaven will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon as they travel to Southern Polytechnic State University for a Southern States Athletic Conference contest. The match is slated to get underway at 3:00 PM.
