Mobile, AL- The Belhaven women's soccer team opened the 2011 season in fine fashion defeating Texas College 4-0 Friday afternoon in the “Classic on the Hill” hosted by Spring Hill College. The win carries the season record to 1-0 while Texas College drops their first contest of the year falling to 0-1.

The Blazers struck first in the contest scoring in the 11th minute on an own goal that deflected off of Abril Rodriguez of Texas College. Rebecca Ontero turned in the Blazers next goal, her first of the season, in the 25th minute giving the Blazers a 2-0 advantage. Ontero's goal was the last of the first half allowing the Blazers to take a comfortable lead into the locker room.

Rebecca Ontero scored the first goal of the second half with Morgan Ogale assisting on the score giving the Blazers a 3-0 lead in the 58th minute. Immediately following the first score of the second half Krista Brizeno tacked on a goal in the 58th minute. Those two goals rounded out the contest as Belhaven prevailed by the final score 4-0.

The Blazers tallied 23 total shots and 11 shots on goal with four finding the back of the net. The Blazers used some stellar defense to hold Texas College to only three totals shots and only two on goal with neither passing by goalkeeper Nicole Walsh.

Rebecca Ontero led Belhaven a pair of goals on four shot attempts. Krista Brizeno followed Ontero with two on goal shots and one score. The additional Blazer goal counted as a team goal.

Karla Valles led the Steers in shot attempts with two which were both on goal shots. Patricia Alanis was the only other player with a shot attempt for the Steers.

Nicole Walsh got the start in net for the Blazers turning in all 90 minutes of play allowing no goals and earning two saves. Diana Martinez got the start in the net for the Steers playing all 90 minutes giving up four goals and earning seven saves in the contest.

The Blazers will be back in action tomorrow against Lyon College (Ark.) on day two of the “Classic on the Hill,” tournament at Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL. Kickoff is slated for 5:00 PM.
