JACKSON, Miss.-The Belhaven football team lost the final game of the 2011 season on Saturday to 3rd ranked Georgetown College (KY) 33-7 at H.T. Newell Field. The Blazers, who received votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll, led 7-3 early in the first quarter but the Tigers reeled off 30 unanswered points to pull away for the win.
Belhaven (5-6) scored its only touchdown of the game on a 79 yard touchdown pass from quarterback

Kylan Pollard with 8:22 left to play in the first quarter. Pollard made some quick cuts and got a great block from wide out
Octavious Truman to spring him for the touchdown on the screen play. Pollard ended the day with 115 receiving yards on seven catches.
The turning point in the game came on the ensuing kickoff when the Blazers tried a surprise onside kick, which Georgetown was able to recover at the Belhaven 44 yard line. The Tigers then went the 44 yards in six plays to regain a 10-7 lead they never lost the rest of the afternoon. Following a five yard penalty, Georgetown quarterback Neal Pawsat connected on a 43 yard pass play to Chris Gohman which eventually led to an Adam Schmitz two yard touchdown run on fourth and goal.
Georgetown placekicker Alex Kreimer added a 28 yard field goal with 6:33 left in the first half and then with 47 seconds to play until intermission Dominique Carter cruised into the end zone from five yards out to make it a 19-7 game. Kyle Gaffney returned the opening kickoff of the second half back to the Belhaven 46 and then on the second play of the drive Randy Doss ran in it from 27 yards out extending the Tiger edge to 26-7. Georgetown capped the scoring with 2:10 showing on the clock in the third quarter as defensive back Devon Pitts picked off an errant pass from Williams and raced 32 yards to generate the final seven points for the Tigers on the afternoon.
For Belhaven on offense, Pollards 115 receiving yards mark the second consecutive game in which he eclipsed the century mark in that category. Pollard had 132 yards against Cumberland the previous week. Williams completed 16 passes for 172 and a touchdown along with the interception in the third quarter. Justin Gaines finished the day with 54 yards leaving him 23 shy of 1,000 for the season.
Defensively, senior linebacker
Ricky Wadlington was all over the field leading the way with 12 tackles, including three for a loss. He added a forced fumble and fumble recovery along with tallying two sacks and two quarterback pressures. He finishes the season with a team best 107 tackles and 21 tackles for a loss. Defensive back
Craig McDonald had nine tackles and completes the year with 106 stops in 2011. Defensive lineman Tre' Lansing and Josh Herring each had a sack.
Justin Mims and
Stephen Miner ended the day with seven tackles each.
Georgetown (10-0) was led on the ground by Logan Osborne who carried the ball four times for 85 yards. Randy Doss, Dominique Carter, and Adam Schmitz had touchdown runs. Quarterback Neal Pawsat completed 15 passes for 164 yards and was sacked four times. His leading receiver was Chris Gohman who made three catches for 61 yards. The Tigers outgained Belhaven 382 yards to 256 yards.
Defensively for the Tigers, Jake Conner led the team with eight tackles including a sack and two tackles for a loss. Brock Messina made six stops and had a game high three sacks on the day. Zach Goebel made seven tackles and then Clay Brown, Winston Hines, and Doug Key also came up with six tackles apiece.
Belhaven will now head into the off season and get to work on building for the 2012 campaign.
