GULPORT, Miss.- The Belhaven men's soccer was defeated by Southern Poly on Thursday night in a Southern States Athletic conference semi-final contest 3-0. Belhaven could never get on track and found themselves down 1-0 at halftime. Southern Poly added two more goals 15 minutes into the second half to put the match away.
Southern Poly (15-2-1) punched in the first goal of the contest in the 29th minute when Gabe Warner set up Emeka Maduka for the score. The goal would be the only one of the first half as the Hornets held the Blazers off the board enjoying a 1-0 lead into the break.In the second half, Jumol Harewood came up big for the Hornets getting the last two goals of the contest pass goalie
Greg Hartley. The first occurred in the 52nd minute and the second in the 60th minute to put the match on ice at 3-0.
Southern Poly advances to the Southern States Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday where they will meet up with Auburn-Montgomery who upset top seeded Mobile 3-2 in double overtime.
Belhaven (15-4) had some opportunities to score unloading 10 shot attempts with six of them being on goal. The Hornets managed 17 shot attempts with nine on goal including the three scores. Blazer goalie
Greg Hartley suffered the loss logging all 90 minutes in the match. He allowed three goals and snatched six saves. Dennis Krammer posted the shutout victory for Southern Poly and in the process made six saves.
The Blazers will now await word on a possible at-large berth into the NAIA National Tournament with the tournament field scheduled to be announced on Sunday. The Blazers could also possibly host an NAIA National Tournament Opening Round game on Saturday November 19th. The host sites along with the final NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll and the final NAIA MRPI Poll that will be used to determine tournament seeding and pairings will also be announced on Sunday.
