Blazers Pick up Win against Truett-McConnell, McLoughlin Turns a Hat Trick

Jackson, MS- The Belhaven men's soccer team gained a win at home Saturday against Southern States Athletic Conference opponent Tuett McConnell College 5-0. The Blazers, ranked 9th in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, picked up their 11th win of the season running their overall record to 11-1 and 6-1 in the SSAC.

The match was a slow paced in the first half with neither team finding the back of the net going into the break. Aaron McLoughlin then got the Blazers on the broad in the 60th minute as Alex Rodriguez gained the assist by setting the table with a free kick in front of the net. The goal gave the Blazers a 1-0 advantage. Three minutes later, (63rd) McLoughlin struck again scoring his second goal of the contest off an assist by Guilherme Sousa. Three minutes later, McLoughlin brought the crowd to its feet again as he found the back of the net for the third time in a span of nine minutes to pick up the hat trick. Giovanni Correa turned in the assist as the Blazers took a 3-0 lead.

Guilherme Sousa got his second assist in the contest from a Felipe Ferreira goal in the 77th minute that extended the lead to 4-0. In the last 10 seconds of the contest, Achille Campion was able to ice the game with his team leading 13th goal of the season giving the Blazers a 5-0 shutout.

Aaron McLoughlin led the Blazers with three goals from five shot attempts. Felipe Ferreira and Achille Campion turned the other two Blazer goals. The Blazers outshot the Bears 24-9 with 11 on goal attempts and five goals. Truett- McConnell (1-10, SSAC 0-6) was lead by John Burke who had three shot attempts with two being counted as on goal.

Greg Hartley is credited for the win in net as he did not allow any goals while earning three saves. Craig Stephenson received the loss giving up five goals with six saves.

The Blazers will be back in action as they travel to the University of Mobile on Tuesday for another Southern States Athletic Conference contest. Game time is slated for 7:00 PM.
